About the Provider

My name is Dr. Solimar Santiago- Warner, LCSW, PMH-C. SolMaterna is a virtual mental health practice in NY & CT focusing on Maternal Mental Health, Grief, loss and Trauma from a BIPOC feminist lens.

It’s a play on words using my name Solimar and the Spanish word Materna which means maternal. SolMaterna is the healing light that all of us mothers have to heal ourselves and our communities and break generational traumas.

During the perinatal period, women can be susceptible to experiencing trauma due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth, medical interventions, unexpected outcomes, or other distressing events. I alleviate the psychological distress associated with these traumatic experiences, helping women to process and integrate the memories in a healthier way.

I provide guidance on the emotional and psychological changes that can occur during pregnancy and postpartum. As well as strategies to cope with stress, relationship challenges, changes in identity, grief, and other psychological aspects of becoming a mother.

Areas in which I help:

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders- I can diagnose and treat conditions such as postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), postpartum PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and other related mood disorders.

Perinatal Loss- I specialize in understanding the physical and emotional aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, as well as the various causes and circumstances of perinatal loss. I provide support support to individuals and couples who have experienced miscarriage, termination (TFMR), ectopic pregnancy, life- limiting conditions (fetal abnormalities), neonatal death, or other types of perinatal loss (physical and symbolic such as IVF and fertility challenges).

Emotional Support- I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for people to express their emotions, concerns, and fears related to pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood/parenthood, through empathy, validation, and guidance to help you navigate through these emotional challenges.

Education and Counseling- I am a teacher at heart! I  provide education about the emotional and psychological changes that can occur during pregnancy and postpartum. Example of these topics include coping with stress, relationship challenges, changes in identity, and other psychological aspects of becoming a mother/parent.

Risk Assessment and Prevention- I evaluate the risk factors that may contribute to perinatal mental health disorders and work towards early intervention and prevention strategies. I do this by asking questions pertaining to your personal history, family history, and current circumstances to identify potential risks.

Treatment Planning- I develop a  personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs. This may include therapy, counseling, support groups, medication management (if necessary and in collaboration with a psychiatrist), and referrals to other healthcare providers or community resources.

Partner and Family Support- As humans, we are part of a collective, we don’t exist in a vacuum. I provide support and guidance to partners and family members who may be affected by the person’s mental health challenges through education, coping strategies, and communication techniques to help loved ones provide effective support.

I also provide clinical supervision and facilitate workshops and trainings for organizations. Check out my link and schedule a consultation with me today!

With gratitude,

Dr. Solimar
